Movie Mondays on the pier

SANDUSKY — From dogs to wizards and even an extraterrestrial, several different types of beings will take their turn descending upon a popular gathering space this summer. The Sandusky Recreation-run Movies by the Bay series returns Monday at Jackson Street Pier. Movies start at about 7 p.m. Officials scheduled a free flick each Monday night through Aug. 14. It's presented by the Wightman-Wieber Charitable Foundation with support from Firelands Health. Additionally, those overseeing these movie events typically bring other attractions to the area for movie-goers. Among last year's highlights, organizers brought down a bounce house. "It's important to offer Sandusky family-friendly events to meet other families and for kids to make friends," said Tondra Frisby, the city recreation department's youth program supervisor. Here's this year's tentative schedule: • June 26 — "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial"; Kids can plant geraniums. • July 3 — "An American Tail" • July 10 — "Beethoven"; There will be a special St. Bernard Dog appearance. • July 17 — "Planes: Fire & Rescue" • July 24 — "The Nightmare Before Christmas" • July 31 — "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone"; There will be a special birthday celebration. • Aug. 7 — "The Jungle Book" • Aug. 14 — "DC League of Super-Pets"
