'It's about a community of unity': Sandusky Pride to return

SANDUSKY — Organizers are excited and are encouraging residents to participate in this month's pride activities. All June, cities and towns across the country are celebrating the history and culture of LGBTQ+ individuals, and Sandusky is no different. This year, Sandusky Pride has planned a weekend full of exciting activities for anyone to enjoy. The festival is free to attend and begins on Friday, June 23. It kicks off with performances from drag entertainers and a free concert with pop band PVRIS at 9 p.m. "The city is excited to partner with Sandusky Pride and them putting on their pride festival, this year it's going to be two days, Friday and Saturday," city communications manager Tom Horsman said. The celebration also includes a parade at noon on Saturday, more drag performances, a downtown block party with music, a variety of food trucks, games and vendors. Event organizer Robin Lloyd said that this year they really wanted to highlight that this celebration is for everyone, and is not limited to only LGBTQ+ individuals. "I want to make it very known that our Sandusky Pride is a lot different than other prides. It is LGBTQ+ based, but we want to encompass everything," Lloyd said. "We want you to come down and celebrate you no matter who you are, race, religion, sexual orientation, you name it." Local businesses downtown are also participating in the festival by offering different deals and events. "A big part of the festival is inside these businesses that have sponsored and are flying flags," Lloyd said. "We wouldn't exist without these sponsors and especially our small local businesses doing what they can." Those who plan to attend should expect a vibrant event, with numerous opportunities to experience fun events and interact with others that are passionate about pride. "We are celebrating life and love and peace," Lloyd said. "And our strong fight for equality, individuality too, we should all be able to be who we are."
