Scholarships available for Erie County students

SANDUSKY — This year, the Erie County Community Foundation's board of directors awarded more than $288,500 in scholarships to 108 Erie County high school and college students. The foundation manages about 50 named scholarship funds for Erie County students. Scholarships available are based on fields of study, merit, financial need, sports and community involvement, among other criteria. Students completing the universal grant application are automatically matched by skills and financial need with the criteria for each scholarship, eliminating the need to complete multiple scholarship applications. Scholarships available to area high school students • Carmen M. Appleby Memorial Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School who will attend Bowling Green State University's main campus or BGSU Firelands, with preference given to students planning to major in psychology. Scholarship amount: Varies • Samuel R. and Anna Barone Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of any Erie County high school who is the first generation of their family to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university. Scholarship amount: $1,000 minimum • Buckeye Broadband Scholar of the Month (Oct. 10 deadline): For current graduating seniors of Edison, Huron, Margaretta, Perkins, Sandusky or Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic high schools pursuing an undergraduate degree • Carver Family Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School, with two awards annually — one female student and one male student. Scholarship amount: $1,000 minimum • Cedar Fair Scholarship: For U.S. and Canadian citizens who are current graduating seniors or college students with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference is given to Cedar Fair associates, spouses or children who demonstrate strong community service and leadership • College Women's Club Charitable Fund Scholarship: For current female graduating seniors of Huron, Margaretta, Perkins, Sandusky or St. Mary Central Catholic high schools who are pursuing an undergraduate degree • John and Clara Corogin Scholarship: For minority graduating seniors of any Erie County high school • Harry DeLapp Scholarship (Nov. 10 deadline): For a current senior football player at Huron High School. Scholarship amount: varies. • Madeleine Chapter 204, Order of the Eastern Star Scholarship: For current graduating seniors who reside in Erie County and attend any Erie County high school, with preference given to Vermilion High School • Mary L. Fenker Scholarship: For graduating seniors who reside in Erie County, Ohio and are pursuing an undergraduate degree. Preference is given to African American students who are graduates of Sandusky High School • Floyd Family Scholarship: For current graduating seniors who reside in Erie County and are pursuing a degree in music, music education, general education or liberal arts studies, with preference given to graduates of Huron High School. • Donal F. and Marcia L. Goff Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Perkins High School residing in Erie County who are pursuing a four-year degree in health care. Scholarship amount: $1,000 minimum. • Dave Hermes Memorial Scholarship: For current graduating seniors residing in Erie County. Preference is given to academic performance, as well as balancing community service, athletics, and work commitments. • Bob Hower Memorial Scholarship (Feb. 1 deadline): For graduating high school seniors residing in Erie County who will attend Ohio State University. Preference is given to graduating seniors from Sandusky or Perkins high schools who intend to study business and/or entrepreneurship. • Thomas and Dorothy Jackson "Dare to Dream" Memorial Scholarship: For African American graduating seniors of Perkins High School. Preference is given to students residing in the Searsville area of Perkins Township; the Homeville area of Perkins Township; or Perkins Township. Scholarship amount: $2,000 first year; $1,000 second year; $500 third and fourth years • Jewett Architectural Scholarship: For residents of Erie County pursuing an education in the field of architecture. • Dr. Craig T. Johnson Memorial Scholarship: For Huron High School graduates or residents of northwest Ohio who have participated in swimming and/or diving programs for a minimum of three years. Available for undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a degreed program attending an accredited university, technical school, or community college. • Douglas E. Kidwell Memorial Athletic Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School. Must be a varsity athlete, have demonstrated exemplary citizenship, good moral character and financial need. Scholarship amount: $1,000 minimum • Paul, Jeanne and Sally Maschari Family Scholarship: Two awards annually, one for a current graduating senior of Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic High School and one for a current graduating senior of Sandusky High School, with declared major in business or medicine. Scholarship amount: $500 • Ewalt and Jocelyn Maurushat Engineering Scholarship: For graduating seniors of any Erie County high school with a declared major in engineering. Preference is given to students demonstrating excellent academic performance and with multiple siblings and/or large extended families. Scholarship amount: $1,000 • Ewalt and Jocelyn Maurushat General Scholarship: For graduating seniors residing in Erie County who demonstrate excellent academic success in high school, a minimum 3.5 GPA, and a minimum ACT score of 25 • Peter P. and Lorraine A. Mellio Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School who are enrolled full-time in an accredited university or community college pursuing a degree in business management. Scholarship amount: $2,500 • Camile Myers Memorial Scholarship: For female graduating seniors of Perkins High School; must be four-year participant in girls' soccer or, secondarily, a three-year participant in girls' soccer • Ohio Athletic Committee Scholarship (Feb. 1 deadline): For graduating seniors residing in Ohio who have competed in at least one Ohio Athletic Committee wrestling event, or been a member of high school football team, cheerleading squad or cross country team. Scholarship amount: $1,000 • Ruth F. Parker Scholarship: For individuals who reside in either Erie, Huron or Ottawa counties who will attend BGSU Firelands • PEO, Chapter BE Scholarship: For female graduates of an Erie County high school who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree • Helen B. and Elam P. Sabroske Educational Fund: For graduates of any Erie County high school who reside in Erie County and attend Bowling Green State University's main campus or BGSU Firelands • Sand Hill Community Church Scholarship: For graduates of Perkins and Margaretta high schools who are residents of Erie County • Sandusky Bay Kiwanis Community Service Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Huron, Margaretta, Perkins, Sandusky, St. Mary Central Catholic high schools and EHOVE Career Center • Sandusky-Firelands Alzheimer's Scholarship: For residents of Erie County pursuing a degree in the medical or health care fields with an interest in working with geriatric patients • Sandusky High School Alumni Association Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School. Preference is given to students who, without this award, might not otherwise be able to continue their education. • Michelle Marie Saunders and Ryan Leigh Foss Memorial Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Huron High School. Preference is given to students planning to attend BGSU main campus or BGSU Firelands or those majoring in education or nursing. Scholarship amount: $3,000 • Alan R. Schlessman Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Perkins High School, with consideration given to those who will attend Ohio State University. Consideration may be given to students who participated in golf, basketball, tennis or peer leadership programs. • Herbert C. and Margaret M. Schriner Memorial Scholarship: For residents of Erie County who will attend Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio • Clarence W. Seavers Citizenship Scholarship: For graduates of any Erie County high school who are pursuing a degree in political science or computer science/technology. Preference is given to students with demonstrated qualities of leadership, spirituality and commitment to community service. Scholarship amount: $500 • Ralph B. and Helen C. Seitz Memorial Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Sandusky High School who are pursuing an undergraduate degree. Preference given to applicants who, without this award, might not otherwise be able to continue their education. • Speers Family Scholarship: For graduates of any Erie County high school. Must be attending BGSU Firelands, Bowling Green State University, the University of Toledo, or the University of Toledo's health sciences campus; a resident of Erie County for at least four years; majoring in medical field, public administration/policy, education, engineering or engineering technology • Edward Paul Toll Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of Perkins High School who plan to pursue a degree in environmental studies and/or participate in their college athletic swimming program. Scholarship amount: $500 • Bertha and David Wiggins Scholarship: For current graduating seniors of any Erie County high school who reside in Erie County and will attend a college or university in Ohio. For students of high scholastic achievement from a wide racial, religious and cultural spectrum Scholarships for non-traditional/career tech/college students • Cedar Fair Scholarship: For U.S. and Canadian citizens who are currently graduating seniors or college students with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference is given to Cedar Fair associates, spouses or children who demonstrate strong community service and leadership. • Edward L. Feick Vocational Training Scholarship: For Erie County residents who are or will be attending an accredited vocational training program or apprenticeship program in the United States. Preference is given to graduates of Sandusky High School attending EHOVE Career Center. • Daniel E. and Marjorie A. Hartung Scholarship: For non-traditional aged single parent residing in Erie County; they must be returning to school after an interruption in education or continuing in a degreed program on part-time basis pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree. Scholarship amount: $1,000 • Jewett Architectural Scholarship: For residents of Erie County pursuing an education in the field of architecture • Dr. Craig T. Johnson Memorial Scholarship: For Huron High School graduates or residents of northwest Ohio who have participated in swimming and/or diving programs for a minimum of three years. It's available for undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a degreed program attending an accredited university, technical school or community college. • Mildred P. McCrystal Memorial Scholarship: For graduates of any Erie County high school who have completed at least two years at an accredited university or community college in the United States with a declared major in the fine arts with an emphasis on music performance or music education • PEO, Chapter BE Scholarship: For female graduates of an Erie County high school who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. • Sandusky-Firelands Alzheimer's Scholarship: For residents of Erie County pursuing a degree in the medical or health care fields with an interest in working with geriatric patients • Constance L. Smith Education Scholarship: For graduates of any Erie County high school who are in their sophomore, junior or senior year at Bowling Green State University's main campus or at BGSU Firelands with declared major in education Preference given to graduates of Edison High School and to students who have successfully balanced academic, community service and work commitments. Scholarship amount: $1,000 • Kenneth R. and Rhonda Hill-Watt Scholarship: For residents of Erie County with a minimum 2.5 GPA who are or will be attending BGSU Firelands
