Boating, parking notices issued for Festival of the Fish

VERMILION — Ahead of a popular city festival, the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce released public safety notices and parking restrictions. The committee organizing the city's Festival of the Fish, happening June 16-18, issued the announcements on Tuesday. Here is some information festival attendees should know: Boating restrictions The Vermilion River will completely close starting at 9:30-11 p.m. or later. The fireworks display is set to begin at 10 p.m., and there will be five to six temporary buoys set up 500 feet around the detached break wall, according to a news release from the committee. Boaters are permitted to watch the fireworks show on the north side of these buoys. Both attached piers, the one by Main Street Beach & Park and the other by Lagoon Beach, will be off-limit to all spectators. The west entrance to the Vermilion River will not be accessible once the fireworks are placed on the break wall. The committee is asking that boaters use the east entrance to navigate both in and out of the Vermilion River for the time being. Parking notices There will be no parking available from Huron Street to Main Street Beach & Park except for emergency vehicles, the release states. This area will be blocked off from Thursday, June 15 at midnight until the fireworks display is over, which is estimated to be at 11 p.m. Friday, June 16. Police will enforce this by towing vehicles at the owner's expense. Fireworks will be visible from the lake outside the safety zone, Main Street Beach and the Festival area.
