Kalahari expands outdoor water park

HURON TWP. — Kalahari Resorts & Conventions unveiled three new additions to its outdoor water park in Erie County. Staff members unveiled the new-look setup on Friday during what was dubbed an inaugural swim celebration with Nehemiah Partners of Sandusky. Nehemiah — a faith-based nonprofit which encourages, empowers and educates young people through a holistic program approach — received a $5,000 check from Kalahari. Before the expansions, Kalahari had two pools in its Zambezi outdoor water park. The area was formerly occupied by seating. Among the most notable features: • The new Zanzibar pool is a 15,000-square-foot pool with tanning ledges on three sides and a zero-depth entrance on the fourth: • The tanning ledges allow guests to lounge on chairs in 8 inches of water. • The zero-depth entrance enables guests to enter on a sloped incline while surrounded by small fountains. • The 42-inch-deep pool is the largest in any of Kalahari's outdoor spaces. The renovated zipline has towers at each of the four corners of the outdoor park, guests can zip over attractions and seating areas 50 feet in the air. • A freefall jump ledge was also installed on one of the zipline towers. The jump ledge allows guests to experience a 10- to 15-foot freefall before being lowered to the ground by a jump belt. Construction on the new attractions began in late 2022. "It's really going to liven this space up and give more people a bigger pool and chances to get outside this summer." Kalahari spokeswoman Amber Gang said. The Zambezi outdoor water park is open seasonally from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
