Updated: Man killed by train

SANDUSKY — A man is dead after he was struck by a train Wednesday afternoon. Just before 1 p.m., 911 dispatchers received a call about a person who was struck by a train near the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Huntington Avenue. Sandusky police identified the victim as 25-year-old Arthur Weyer Jr. of Sandusky. He waited for a westbound train to clear the tracks and then began crossing. At that point, he was struck by an eastbound train, according to Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver. The location is near the Milan Road (U.S. 250) overpass. A pedestrian crossing used to be available at the location, but the stairwells were closed and then demolished. The site continues to be a place pedestrians cross the tracts, albeit illegally. The train tracks are private property, and a person found on them can be charged with criminal trespass. The closest legal crossing is Campbell Street. The Columbus Avenue underpass is closer but is currently closed to pedestrians due to damage caused by the October derailment. **This is a breaking news story, check back for updates.**
