SANDUSKY — The annual Frontier Festival returns to Cedar Point this week, offering new limited-time menu options, family fun on the midways and an extensive beer list. This year, the event runs daily from May 25 through June 18 in the Frontier Town area of the park. Guests will notice the banners and sunflowers as soon as they cross the bridge by Maverick or the railroad tracks over by Slingshot. This is because of the affiliation with the Prayers From Maria foundation, which funds research for children's cancer. A portion of proceeds from the Frontier Festival goes toward this important cause. Guests will also, once again, be able to experience the Prayers From Maria sunflower field later in the fall over by the Cedar Point Express hotel. The Frontier Festival really brings to life the Frontier Town area with live entertainment, including live bands and appearances by the Peanuts characters. Guests will get to shop local artisans, play sunflower-themed games and take part in other activities like a corn-on-the-cob eating contest. That is right. This year's Frontier Festival theme is corn with a whole new lineup of menu options themed around the cereal grain. The whole point of the menu is to be a little bit adventuresome and maybe think a little bit outside of the box. After all, you are in an amusement park where the whole day are full of experiences you do not get to do outside of the environment. So let's take a look at this year's menu: • Elote sweet corn quesadilla with sour cream drizzle • Corn ice cream with butterscotch and caramel corn topping • Chicken or beef walking tacos over corn honey barbecue Fritos • Corn fritters with sour cream drizzle and chives • Sweet corn cheesecake square with whipped cream and caramel drizzle • Charred corn and chorizo flatbread • Funnel cake fries with caramel corn • Jalapeno creamed corn empanada • Red bliss potato pierogi • Smoked corn on the cob For a complete rundown on all the Frontier Festival menu items and beer list, be sure to visit cpfoodblog.com. The cheapest way to experience the menu items for the event is with Frontier Festival tasting cards. They are now on sale for the 2023 season from cedarpoint.com, or for purchase in the park. A six-taste card costs about $40, and a 10-taste card costs about $60. The park is also offering a variety of bundles that include tasting cards. Free military admission With the start of the Frontier Festival coinciding with the Memorial Day weekend, Cedar Point has chosen to honor those that served with free admission all weekend. Visit May Friday through Monday and show your U.S. military ID and get free admission to the park. This includes active duty, retired, veterans, reserves and National Guard members. In addition, family and friends entering with their military members can get into the park for $40 when purchased in advance online.
