ALL-SBC BASEBALL: Landon Kim, Tyler Ray, Ben Bates win league MVP awards

Perkins and Bellevue shared the SBC Lake Division baseball title this season, and the co-champs' top players shared the league's Most Outstanding Performer award. Seniors Landon Kim (Perkins) and Tyler Ray (Bellevue) were named co-Most Outstanding Players in the Lake, the SBC announced Tuesday. Kim has an 8-0 pitching record and a 1.28 earned-run average for the Perkins, which earned a No. 2 seed in the Division II Fremont District. He has struck out 70 batters and walked only 12 in 49.1 innings. At the plate, Kim is batting .270 with 21 runs batted in. Ray has a 6-2 record and a 0.89 ERA. He has struck out 72 and walked only 15 in 47 innings on the mound. Ray, a standout three-sport athlete, also is a catcher and leads the Redmen with a .419 batting average. Kim was joined on the Lake first team by teammates John Zwiesler, Braylon Collier and Dylan Crabtree. Carter Ruffing was Bellevue's second first-team pick. Clyde had two first-team picks in catcher Blake Hershey and infielder Drake Guhn. Sandusky put senior Elijah Baker on the first team. Norwalk's Brayson Malson also made the first team. In the Bay Division, Edison pitcher Ben Bates and Oak Harbor's Michael LaLonde shared MVP honors. Bates, a hard-throwing right-hander, is 6-1 with a 1.22 ERA. He has 79 strikeouts and 19 walks in 46 innings. LaLonde is batting .411 and has scored 27 runs for the Rockets. On the mound, he is 4-1 with a 1.51 ERA. Edison and Oak Harbor were ranked No. 9 and No. 15 in the final Division III coaches poll released this week. Bates was joined by teammates Clint Finnen and Hayden Fry on the Bay first team. The Chargers have won 14 straight games. Margaretta's Colson Biehl and Reese Keegan were named to the Bay's first team, as was Huron's Adam Murray. Tiffin Calvert's Mason Johnson was named Most Outstanding Performer in the River Division. Johnson is batting .429 with seven home runs and 33 runs batted in. He has a pitching record of 5-0 and has not allowed an earned run in 32 innings.
