ALL-SBC SOFTBALL: Cameron Kaufman, Eliza Maloney named players of year

Our area's two Division I-bound softball seniors earned Most Outstanding Performer honors in their respective divisions on Tuesday. Perkins shortstop Cameron Kaufman was named MOP in the SBC Lake Division, and Huron pitcher Eliza Maloney earned that title in the SBC Bay Division. Kaufman, who was a first-team All-Ohio selection as a junior and is committed to Bowling Green, has helped the Pirates return to the district tournament after a sectional final upset of No. 1 seed Mansfield Madison. The Toledo-commit Maloney has pitched to the tune of a 0.93 ERA for the Tigers with 205 strikeouts in 120.2 innings pitched. She also bats leadoff for Huron and has hit .578 with 12 triples, eight home runs, 41 RBI, 56 runs scored and 18 stolen bases without getting caught. The SBC River Division MOP is also a senior D-I commit: Tiffin Calvert's Selah Moyer, who will play at Niagara University. She batted .697 for the Senecas with 18 home runs. Bellevue, the three-peat, 12-0 league champions, placed five players on the SBC Lake first-team: Maci Smythe, Kyra Henney, Melody Sommers, Ella Messina and Payton Hicks. Smythe won the league's top player honor as both a sophomore and a junior and has a 1.15 ERA this season with a .500 batting average. Henney, a junior committed to BGSU, has batted .618. Sandusky centerfielder Maleah Clinton was a unanimous first-team selection in the Lake outfield. She has hit .566 with five home runs and 15 stolen bases. Kaufman was joined on the first-team by teammate Kendall Zeiher, and Clyde pitcher Maddie Dukeshire and outfielder Karissa Smith were also chosen. Maloney's teammates Lauren Wainwright and Jayci Schmidt made the Bay first team. Oak Harbor had three first-team selections: Reese Adkins, Porter Gregory and Emily Sommers. Margaretta had Mariah Fields and Lilly Edwards on the first-team. Port Clinton's senior duo of Alliyah Wharton and Kenzie Martinez made it, as did Edison's Kalli Quillen. Huron, Margaretta and Oak Harbor shared the Bay Division crown with matching 8-2 records, each having split their matchups with one another. Danbury had two first-team selections in the SBC River Division: pitcher Ellie Fish and centerfielder Michaela Harris, both juniors.
