Party at the Pier concerts announced

SANDUSKY — Expect encore performances and new headliners taking the stage at a popular summertime concert series in downtown Sandusky. For the third consecutive year, organizers brought back the highly successful Party at the Pier series with the 2023 lineup revealed on Tuesday. People of all ages are invited to attend eight free shows scheduled for Thursday evenings between June 29 and Aug. 31. They feature local acts, tribute bands recognized nationwide and other talented artists playing a variety of genres, everything ranging from rock, reggae, country and more. "We are thrilled to be bringing back the Party at the Pier summer concert to America's Best Coastal Small Town this summer," interim city manager John Orzech said. "This is a fun opportunity for our community to come together and enjoy some great music on our beautifully revitalized Sandusky waterfront." Last year, Jackson Street Pier was named one of the Great Places in Ohio by the Ohio Chapter of the American Planning Association as well as being named the top live concert venue, event venue and date spot in the 2022 Firelands Best of the Best Readers' Choice Awards. Food vendors will be available during concerts, at concertgoers can bring alcoholic beverages to the pier from participating downtown designated outdoor refreshment area, often called DORA, establishments. The 2023 Party at the Pier concert series is presented by Firelands Auto Group, European Wax Center and Mickey Mart. The series is hosted by the city of Sandusky in conjunction with Destination Sandusky and Advantage Entertainment. Party back on Organizers were pleased with the success of last year's Party at the Pier concerts, which saw scores flock to downtown Sandusky for performances like Bruce in the USA, a Springsteen tribute band, Sugarhill Gang and Prince tribute Red Corvette. The budget for this year's series of pier concerts is $182,000 and is broken down as follows: • The Lange Trust of the Sandusky Library contributes $50,000 • The remaining $132,000 is paid for through the city's programming fund, which is funded through the city's lodging tax. The Lange Trust is also bringing back several additional concerts at the pier this summer on June 19, July 28, Aug. 10 and Sept. 8. Specifics on acts for these four show dates have not yet been announced. "We are working on the contracts now for the summer, and I don't think they will disappoint," Lange Trust chairman Sarah Prout said. "They are true Lange Trust-type events — diverse, eclectic and with touches of different cultures."
