Revered deputy retiring

PERKINS TWP. — The Erie County Sheriff's Office on Friday congratulated Deputy Sheriff Ron Schnittker, who, on Friday, retired after a 38-year-long law enforcement career. The office, via a social media post, provided some insight into his tenure. Schnittker: • Graduated from the Sandusky Police Academy in December 1984 • Received a criminal justice degree from Terra State Community College in 1986 • Served part-time with Milan police and Kelleys Island police and as a reserve officer with Sandusky police until 1987 when he began service as a patrol deputy with the sheriff's office • Appointed as Kelleys Island's police chief, serving in this capacity from 1991 until 2005 when he returned to the sheriff's office as a patrol deputy, the position he retires from today • Coordinated the sheriff's office's marine patrol unit and the Project Lifesaver International detail • Oversaw the sheriff's offices community service/litter prevention program • Received several professional commendations throughout his career Schnittker is married to his wife Barb and a father to two daughters, Olivia and Octavia. "Thank you for your service, Ron, and we'll see you at Kelleys Island," according to the post.
