Experience 10 days of the best in birding

OAK HARBOR — Bird enthusiasts worldwide will soon gather on north-central Ohio's shores for one of the greatest experiences in American birding. The primary sponsor of the event is the Black Swamp Bird Observatory in Oak Harbor. Kimberly Kaufman, executive director of the nonprofit, spoke Tuesday on "Between the Lines Live." The 24-minute interview is available for demand viewing on sanduskyregister.com and the Register's YouTube channel. The Biggest Week in American Birding is a 10-day festival from May 5-14. The Biggest Week is a chance for people to see rare birds while they make a brief stop on Lake Erie's shores during their northern migration. "Birds open a doorway of joy and wonder," Kaufman said. "They help feed our curiosity." The Black Swamp Bird Observatory is committed to educating people about these unique creatures and why preserving and caring for their homes is important.
