Vermilion board member resigns

VERMILION — Vermilion Schools needs to fill a vacant board position within one month. Board member Eric Johnston resigned this week and had an unexpired term. He teaches second-grade students at Sandusky Primary but will become the school's principal this fall. Johnston, a Vermilion graduate, was most recently elected to a new four-year term in November 2021. He's been a teacher for two decades. The board seeks community members to apply by Friday, April 28. Those interested in serving as a Vermilion Schools board member should submit a letter of intent to the district treasurer Justin Klingshirn via email at jklingshirn@vermilionschools.org. Each applicant's letter of intent should include the following: • Name (First, middle and last) • Address • Phone number • Occupation • Why they wish to be a board member "The board will begin interviewing candidates between May 1 and May 12 and will name a replacement within 30 days of Mr. Johnston's resignation," Vermilion Schools stated on its website. "The newly appointed member will serve until Dec. 31, 2023. If the appointed member desires to continue serving, he or she must run in the next general election." To apply, an individual must be at least 18 years old; a resident of Vermilion for at least 30 days; and a registered voter for at least 30 days.
