PREP ROUNDUP: West throws no-hitter to lead St. Mary CC; Huron walks off Willard

DANBURY TWP. — Kyle West threw a five-inning no-hitter to lead St. Mary Central Catholic to an 11-0 baseball victory over Danbury on Wednesday. West struck out nine batters and walked only two. He added two hits at the plate and scored two runs. "It was a big night for Kyle West. He left in fingerprints all over this game," SMCC coach Ryan Myers said. "He's been a leader for us on the mound, at the plate and in the field this season." Brayden Gill had two hits for SMCC and Brock Gill scored three runs. Reid Wikel drove in three runs. The Panthers committed only one error while playing solid defense behind West. "All I asked of Kyle was to throw strikes and he did exactly that," Myers said. "We did a good job of having our pitcher's back. We could have scored a few more runs, but the biggest thing was we played good defense. Vermilion's Riley Kearns and Codey Schwarck combined for 13 strikeouts on the mound. Neither team scored in the final six innings. SOFTBALL Perkins 7, Clyde 5 PERKINS TWP. — Perkins broke a 5-5 tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and went on to defeat Clyde 7-5. Caden McClellan's two-run single with two out brought home Alaina Speer and Natalie Martin with the Pirates' final two runs. Addi Obermeyer went 2 for 3 with an RBI and scattered 11 Clyde hits to get the pitching win. Kendall Zeiher drove in two runs for Perkins (7-6, 4-4 SBC Lake). Maddie Dukeshire, Aubrey Sengstock and Vanessa West each had two hits for the Fliers (9-6, 3-2). Kennedi Long hit a home run and drove in three runs for Clyde.
