Vermilion welcomes 4 new firefighters

VERMILION — With Vermilion fire Chief William Brown presiding and Mayor Jim Forthofer in attendance, the city's fire department recently swore in four new firefighters. Joining the city's volunteer department, with city statements included, are: • Shawn Goldsmith: "Goldsmith brings to Vermilion 19 years of experience with the Westlake Fire Department. He has prior experience with the Perkins, Huron and Amherst fire departments as well. Goldsmith has earned an associate degree in business management from the University of Toledo." • Taylor Perchinsky: "Perchinsky is certified as a Firefighter 2. She is a graduate of Vermilion High School and the EHOVE Career Center. She has served as a lifeguard at Kalahari Resorts. Perchinsky will respond from Vermilion's fire station No. 2." • John Miles: "Miles is a graduate of Firelands High School. He is currently in training to serve in the Vermilion Fire Department. He is a native of Tennessee and works full-time for NN (of Wellington)." Chris Lassen: "Lassen comes to the Vermilion Fire Department after a 30-year career with the Lorain Fire Department. He is trained to the technical level in rope rescue, confined space and trench rescue. A native of Lorain, firefighter Lassen served in the U.S. Air Force for six years. He will respond from Vermilion's station No. 2."
