Access inside Accessories Matter

SANDUSKY — An entrepreneur wanted to provide her customers with full access to a whole host of items so they can best accessorize their homes and wardrobes. Melissa Kitts, a 1990 Edison High School graduate, recently opened up Accessories Matter, 103 W. Market St., in downtown Sandusky. It's located near the Hogrefe Building. The boutique fulfills a lifelong dream for Kitts, a Sandusky resident, who boasts an interior design background. "I had a hard time finding things that look expensive but are not expensive, so I kind of wanted to give others an option for that," said Kitts, who describes herself as an "eclectic" person. "I also know a lot of people inherit antiques, and I want to show people how to incorporate new items with antiques." Among the items Kitts sells at her shop: women's attire, such as casual clothing; handbags; sunglasses; jewelry; decor; gift baskets; along with men's accessories, namely belts and ties. "I can also create custom gift baskets for people, which can include some of the items we sell here," Kitts said. Kitts also welcomes questions about interior design, as she can provide recommendations to those inquiring. She's passionate about supporting local artists. It's evident throughout her boutique. For instance, scenic pictures captured by city resident Susan Prentice help decorate the store's walls. She's also hosting an upcoming event featuring a pair of area authors. People can search for Accessories Matter on social media for more information regarding these events and others. Kitts encourages people to come and check out her boutique, open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. "If you look good, you feel good, and there is no reason why people have to spend a small fortune to look good," Kitts said
