Fremont releases amphitheater rendering

FREMONT — Fremont officials expressed excitement over the planned construction of an amphitheater and park in downtown Fremont. The city recently released an artist rendering of the amphitheater, which will be built at the corner of Arch Street and Birchard Avenue. Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez said residents can expect an outdoor space where people can gather and experience one-of-a-kind events. "We are beyond excited about unveiling this long-awaited addition to Fremont residents," Sanchez said. Sanchez said the project is currently awaiting a construction manager at risk. This method will allow local contractors to be involved in this project while ensuring the city receives the best possible price. The project's estimated cost is $3 million. Most of the funding for the project is from state and federal grants, and the Fremont Rotary Club also raised funds for the construction. Sanchez said the idea behind the project is thanks to members of the city's rotary club. Roger Kuns, a rotary club member, said that the idea first came in 2016 when the club was celebrating 90 years of service to the community. "One of our pledges that year was to raise $100,000 within those 10 years," Kuns said. Fremont's rotary club has raised most of its money through its Blues, Brews and Brats event and a generous donation from the family of Don Miller, a Fremont-based businessman. The park will be named in Don Miller's honor; the amphitheater itself has not yet been given a name. "We will be pledging $250,000 toward both the park and amphitheater — a combined total of $500,000," Kuns said. "We are committed to catapulting Fremont's economic growth."
