Strawberry Cow on the 'moo-ve'

SANDUSKY — For Javon Williams, opening a business serving ice cream — his favorite dessert — comes as a real treat. And setting up shop in his adopted hometown, of Sandusky represents the cherry on top. Williams, along with his fianceé, Summer Bays, recently debuted a moveable food truck known as Strawberry Cow. For right now, people can find the trailer, sprinkled in pink and white hues, parked just outside the Barrel House Saloon, off East Shoreline Drive, in Sandusky. "It's a mobile ice cream parlor that specializes in ice cream and milkshakes," said Williams, who's originally from Detroit and landed in Sandusky after working at Cedar Point for several seasons. "I fell in love with the city," Williams said. "I like the peacefulness of it, and I also like the people here. I know ice cream is very profitable, and it's a universal thing. It's hard not to like ice cream." Strawberry Cow features various Toft Dairy ice cream flavors, consisting of vanilla, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, cookie dough and, of course, strawberry as its business name reads. "Those are the same flavors for our milkshakes as well," Williams said. "Our flavors will vary from week to week and month to month. And we are also going to have those over-the-top milkshakes with candy and cupcakes on them." Strawberry Cow also sells hot dogs, hot pretzels, nachos with fixings and other options. As the weather warms up, people can expect Strawberry Cow to expand upon its hours. During spring, people can visit it beginning 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It'll stay open for several hours. The truck can also be rented out for parties, Williams said. "Just come down to check out our trailer," Williams said. "It's custom-made, and I did everything inside: the electrical, the plumbing, the lights. It's a sight to see, and you should also come down because we serve the best ice cream in town." What's in a name? Bays offered up an explanation for the business name of Strawberry Cow. "It's just cute and trendy, and everyone loves cows, and we love strawberries," Bays said.
