Come help clean up Sandusky

SANDUSKY — An annual volunteer-driven litter removal program begins its new year in the coming days. Sandusky's Love Where You Live Neighborhoods Cleanup series calls upon service organizations, youth groups and residents living in zones to spruce up specific cites on a given Saturday. This year's series will consist of 12 events taking place throughout the spring, summer and fall in various locations throughout Sandusky. "Starting on April 15, the (2023) cleanup series will begin at the Tiffin Avenue underpass, where volunteers will gather to clean up the area," according to a city statement. "The Sandusky Neighborhood Cleanup Series is an opportunity for residents to come together to make a difference in their community by helping to keep their city clean and beautiful," the statement read. "Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate and bring their friends and family along." It's the brainchild of city commissioner Dave Waddington, who, for years, has organized smaller cleanup events but began a more comprehensive approach in recent times. "I have been involved with city litter cleanups for 20 years, coming together to help the environment and community with volunteers," Waddington said. "These cleanups are important for our neighborhoods and the health of Sandusky." The cleanups begin at 9 a.m. and take place on Saturdays. Supplies, gloves as well as water and coffee will be provided.
