Sandusky announces 2023 yard waste program

SANDUSKY — People can have their leaves, grass and other yard waste disposed of through a Sandusky city program. City commissioners approved a contract with Republic Services to continue the city's yard waste program this year. It begins on April 1 and continues through the end of the year. "If you are currently enrolled in the program from last year, you will be automatically enrolled for this year's program, unless you cancel by calling 419-627-5893," according to a city statement. "If you would like to enroll in the Yard Waste program, you can visit cityofsandusky.com/yardwaste to find the application or stop by the Customer Accounting Office in the lobby of City Hall." Yard waste is picked up every Friday. Participants in the program are charged $15.50 per month, which is assessed on a person's sewer/water bill. Here are the program rules and guidelines provided by the city: • Have your yard waste at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day it is to be picked up. It's highly recommended that it be placed at the curb the night before your scheduled pickup. • Make sure the yard waste container is clearly marked "yard waste." Please use a 20–35 gallon container made of plastic, metal or fiberglass with adequate handles for lifting. • Biodegradable bags are accepted. • Yard wastes that are accepted include leaves, brush, grass, garden waste, tree material/wood up to 4 inches in diameter tied and other compost material. • If you are experiencing issues with your waste being picked up, contact Republic Services at 419-626-2454 or by emailing the local office at dispatch263@republicservices.com.
