Huron PD getting new cruisers

HURON — Driven to better protect and serve the public, Huron police commanders put in a funding request for two new police cruisers. And, recently approved by city council — at a cost not to exceed $118,600 — they should be arriving sometime later this year. Huron police Chief Terry Graham filled in some additional blanks. • The need: "The police department budgets for two new police cruisers annually to be in line with our seven-year rotation plan of our cruiser replacement program. Usually, an officer will keep a cruiser for around seven years depending on mileage, maintenance costs and any damage from accidents." • The make: "We are purchasing two 2023 Ford Interceptor SUV cruisers. The SUVs are replacing two Dodge Chargers in fleet, two older cruisers with high mileage and high maintenance." • The fleet: "The police department has fourteen cruisers. One cruiser is assigned to each full-time officer." • The benefits: "The SUV cruisers will allow officers to patrol and respond to emergencies in inclement weather more safely and efficiently as compared to the Dodge Charger."
