Overdose alert issued in Erie County

SANDUSKY — On Friday, the Erie County Health Department issued an overdose spike alert. "Erie County has experienced a spike in overdoses over the past 24 hours, which included three events, all reversed," according to a post from the department. The post alludes to first responders and/or medical professionals using Narcan to revive people who could have died. "Please be aware of suspected fentanyl, nitazene compounds and/or xylazine in substances such as pressed, or counterfeit, pills, cocaine, meth and heroin," the department wrote. The post also referred to treatment and recovery resources available in the community and for those at risk of overdoses. The health department encourages people to call 419-624-3353 to begin navigating this process. Additionally, the health department "offers free mail-order lifesaving, non-addictive Nalaxone (or Narcan) at narcanerieohio.com for those who are at risk of an overdose and those who love them," the statement read. "Using alone increases the likelihood of a fatal overdose. Where there is life, there is hope."
