The largest, and smallest, show yet

SANDUSKY — No matter large or small, each piece in a new exhibit aims to leave a huge impact with artists, guests and supporters. "Big/little" represents the newest Sandusky Cultural Center exhibit, which debuts on Sunday and remains available for public viewing through March 26. It's also the fourth show of this current 2022-23 season. In fact, on Sunday, there's a grand opening ceremony taking place from 1-4 p.m. at the center. Light refreshments will be served. People can find the center within Sandusky High School, 2130 Hayes Ave. (Ohio 4). The gallery and parking lot are located behind the high school beside its observatory. Public viewing hours are 1-4 p.m. Sundays through Fridays. It's free to the public, and supervised children are welcome. Most of the work in the exhibit is for sale. Marsha Carrington, a center board member, provided more insight for anyone interested in checking it out: The concept: "Charles Mayer, the executive director of the cultural center, offered this insight about the show: 'For (the exhibit, the) Sandusky Cultural Center invited each artist to submit a group of works that explored how a significant change in size might influence their work. Each artist was asked to show a small group of works in any medium that were considerably larger than their usual work and an accompanying group of related works that were smaller than their accustomed size level.'" The pieces: "'Big/little' includes relief prints and etchings, figural and abstract paintings in various media, collages, 3D geometric origami constructions and tooled and painted leather." The artists: "The group show features Ohio artists Paul Coleman, John Donnelly, Nina Vivian Huryn, George Kocar, Randy Maxin, James Ward Peake and Russ Revock." The styles: "Each artist has offered their own perspective on the theme which makes for a considerably diverse show. • Coleman's circle paintings are mesmerizing and hypnotic. • One can get lost in Revock's detailed surrealistic images, which are quite beautiful. • Kocar's colorful paintings are vibrant, quirky and fun. • Donnelly's abstract paintings have dynamic energy that is powerful. • Huryn never fails to impress with her mixed media creations that include tooled leather and, while exploring the darker side, are also very playful. • Peake, an origami master and educator, has created some very large and very small geometric pieces that are truly impressive. • And Maxin's mixed media works draw in the eye with a collage of colorful patterns and shapes."
