New Magee Marsh visitor center will be open soon

OAK HARBOR — A new visitor center will be open soon at the Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, and volunteers are needed to staff the gift shop. The Sportsmen's Migratory Bird Center was built in 1970. Since June 2022, the building has been getting a total transformation and is scheduled to open in April. In a couple of months, visitors will see a whole new look and feel as they walk through the front door, which is framed in large glass windows. Inside, new displays, exhibits and new restrooms have been installed. Visitors will also have access to the upstairs and this space will focus on the hunting tradition at Magee Marsh. An exact opening date will be announced soon and will be posted on the Friends of Magee Marsh Facebook page. The Friends of Magee Marsh will also have a brand new gift shop within the Magee Marsh Visitor center. The group is recruiting volunteers to help in the gift shop. Volunteers will meet visitors from all over the world. The gift shop will be open April through October. An information session for anyone interested in volunteering will be held Saturday, March 25 at 1 p.m. at the Ida Rupp Library in Port Clinton. To register email Mary Warren at windbird@bex.net.
