Perkins Schools leader to retire

PERKINS TWP. — Perkins Schools' superintendent will step down later this year. Todd Boggs announced his decision to retire on July 31 on the school district's website, perkinsschools.org, on Wednesday. "It has been an honor and privilege to serve in this capacity for the last five years, and I will be forever grateful," Boggs wrote. "It is difficult for me to believe that I have reached this stage of my career. I am grateful for the trust that our district family placed in me to lead as superintendent. The time has come for me to allow our board of education the necessary time and commitment to move forward." Perkins board members are expected to accept Boggs' retirement during Wednesday's public meeting. Boggs was hired in 2018 to succeed former superintendent Jodie Hausmann. Before working at Perkins Schools, he led Osnaburg Schools, located east of Canton, since 2013. During his tenure there, he was selected as one of 30 superintendents in the state to participate in the nationally recognized Ohio School Leadership Institute. Before he became a superintendent, Boggs was an elementary principal, a junior high principal and a science teacher for 14 years in various grades. He also coached during that time, and at one point served as a head football coach. In 2020, Boggs received a new four-year contract, overriding the previous three-year contract that was set to expire in July 2021. The new contract, which will have lasted through July 2024, stipulated that Boggs continue to make $127,500 annually as Perkins Schools' top official. Then-board president Jason Dulaney said Boggs asked for no bonuses or raises in the new contract. "There is much work to be done as this district moves forward with academic performance, facilities and the day-to-day operational challenges that will necessitate attention," Boggs said. "I will continue that journey until my last day."
