Find Amanda Dean

The family of Amanda D. Dean has waited five years and seven months to get some answers about where Amanda is and if she's safe. Finally, after the Register picked up their story in December and the Cleveland Center for Missing Children and Adults agreed to help the family, the Huron County Sheriff's Office and the state agreed to search for Amanda. Register screenshot The sheriff's office in 2017 did open a missing persons case when the family became concerned about Amanda after not hearing from her but shut it down after less than 24 hours after getting information from a domestic violence advocacy agency saying that Amanda was safe but did not want to be contacted by family. A records search by the Register revealed there seems to be many leads that the state agent, who is heading up the search for Amanda, can track down. Reports from the sheriff's office reveal a history of domestic abuse and other troubling information that could be related to Amanda's disappearance. The prior reports we reviewed remind us of the 2015 death of Heather Bogle in Sandusky County. It was investigated for about 18 months by a detective who had a history of botched cases and questionable behavior. In that case, three people were falsely identified as "persons of interest," one of whom was targeted by the detective and had some evidence manufactured against her. By August 2016, the jig was up, and the detective was removed from the case. By November, a new sheriff was elected in Sandusky County who vowed to make solving the Heather Bogle homicide his top priority. And by May of 2017, a suspect was arrested: a man identified as the person likely to have killed Heather Bogle about a week after her body was discovered. The point is it's likely that everything the investigator needs to know is right there, in the files. We hope Amanda Dean is found alive and safe, and we also hope the state bureau of investigation special agent gets the job done.
