SBC SWIMMING: Records fall; Rockets go out on top

OAK HARBOR — The SBC swimming championships were filled with record times, impressive team victories and a last hurrah for the hosts. Oak Harbor, in its final year as a member of the Sandusky Bay Conference, went out on top with boys and girls team titles in the Bay Division on Saturday. The Rockets were led by the two Bay most outstanding swimmers, Skyler Turner and Austin Sorg. Turner won the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard breaststroke races as an individual. That included setting a new Bay record in the breaststroke. She also raced as part of Oak Harbor's victorious 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. Sorg, a freshman, set new Bay records in the 200 free and 100 fly. He was also a part of the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relays for the Rockets, which both won. The SBC Lake Division boys team championship was won by Perkins, which was led by most outstanding swimmer Jager Ninke. He set the meet record in the 100 backstroke and also won the 50 free. Ninke and the Pirates won the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay, too. Port Clinton's girls were SBC Lake Division champions behind the leadership of most outstanding swimmer Kami Periat. The junior set the meet record in the 100 back and also won the 50 free, a copycat double of Ninke. She also swam with PC's winning 200 free and 400 free relay teams. A new Lake Division record was set in the 100-yard breaststroke by Clyde's Grayson Morgan. In the 100-yard backstroke, Oak Harbor's Karson Lajti set a new Bay Division mark. Port Clinton's Carlie Blaesing broke the Bay Division record in the 100-yard freestyle. And Oak Harbor junior Alyse Sorg actually set two new Bay Division records on the day: in both the 500 free and 100 back. Perkins' 200 medley relay, which included Jacob Collins, Luke Skavnak, Ninke and Jake Savage, set a new Lake record. Oak Harbor's 200 medley relay on the boys side set a new Bay record with Karter Lajti, Karson Lajti, Austin Sorg and Keegan Witt. The Rockets also set new Bay records in the 200 free relay (Nathan Warnke, Nathan Buderer, Witt, Sorg) and 400 free relay (Warnke, Karter Lajti, Buderer, Karson Lajti). Port Clinton's girls 400 free relay set new meet and pool records with Periat, Alexa Taylor, Zoey Barr and Blaesing. PC also set a meet record in the 200 free relay with Periat, Taylor, Shianne Lieske and Blaesing.
