Officer-involved shooting in Perkins Twp.

PERKINS TWP. — Local police officers were involved in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday evening in Perkins Township. Little detail was released by late Tuesday, but here is what information is known through information from the police department and a news release issued by the Perkins Township trustees: • Officers responded to an apartment building in the 2600 block of Pioneer Trail. Authorities have not specified the nature of the call or the exact time it occurred. • Law enforcement officers from Perkins police, Sandusky police and the Erie County Sheriff's Office were present at the scene. • Officers encountered a man, Domanic J. Grant, 34, who resided in the apartment building. • As a result of the encounter, police shot Grant. • Grant was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center for treatment. His current status is not known. • Authorities did not say how many officers fired, how many times Grant was struck or where he was struck. • Authorities did not identify the officers involved but said that involved officers were placed on administrative leave, a standard practice in such incidents. • Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the criminal aspect of the incident and the Lorain Police Department is overseeing the internal investigation of officers involved. Shortly after 6 p.m., police could be seen entering and exiting the building, which was taped off by yellow caution tape. No other details were known at press time.
