NEW LONDON -- Western Reserve won a showdown of Firelands Conference girls basketball unbeatens Friday night, holding off New London 28-26. The Roughriders scored just two points in the fourth quarter, but that basket by Anna Woodrum proved to be the difference in the game. Madison Pfanner led Western (7-3, 6-0 Firelands) with nine points and Woodrum finished with seven. New London (6-5, 4-1 FC) was led by Madison Rowland, who finished with nine points. Horvath lost 3-1 in overtime in the championship match. The Chargers' Max Hermes finished fourth at 120. He lost 7-4 in the third-place match. Plymouth's Sparks wins at Marion Harding MARION -- Plymouth had five individual placers at the Marion Harding Classic, including 175-pound champion Colton Sparks. Sparks is 14-0 this season and has had only two matches go the distance. Others placers for the Big Red: Cameron Wagers and Andrew Miller, third; and Hunter McClure and Ben Trimmer, eighth.
