Devoted mother, dedicated nurse among turnpike victims

BERLIN HEIGHTS — She's known as a devoted mother, a beloved wife, a dedicated nurse, an amazing sister and so much more. It's the legacy Julie Roth now leaves behind. Roth was one of four people who passed away in a multi-vehicle pileup occurring Friday on the Ohio Turnpike. She was 37. "Unfortunately, Julie and her unborn child did not survive the accident," according to a statement provided by her family. Julie Roth with her children Rory, left, and Ayla when they were younger. Julie's children — Rory, 5, and Ayla 4 — were traveling with her when the crash occurred. "Her two children were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center (in Sandusky), where they received great care before being transported back to Toledo, where they live," the statement read. Ayla "has been released with some internal bruising and a broken bone," the family said. Rory "is being treated in Detroit for frostbite, broken bones and other non-life-threatening injuries." Other than her children, Julie is also survived by her husband, Tony. Spouses Julie and Tony Roth with their children Rory and Ayla. The family then described Roth, who split her time growing up between Berlin Heights and Toledo, where she resided. "Julie was a devoted mother to her two children and looking forward to their third child that was due this spring," the family said. She continued: "Julie was also a beloved wife and a dedicated daughter, sister, aunt and niece. She was an integral part of our family, and we are devastated in her loss. Outside of the home, Julie dedicated her life to helping others as a nurse and enjoyed her side business, The Truffle Affair, making chocolates and other sweet treats for others. She was also a creative mind that loved painting and was in the process of writing her first novel and was an avid gardener." "At this time, we are asking for privacy as we grieve," the family said.
