New member named to county elections board

PERKINS TWP. — A well-known local political figure received universal backing from Erie County Republican Party members to fill a void for an important role. During a recent meeting, the party's executive committee unanimously voted to appoint Lisa Crescimano as a member of the Erie County elections board. Crescimano, the former longtime Perkins Schools treasurer, takes over for Nic Smith, who announced his resignation earlier this month so he could focus on a potential political run. He's targeting the Erie County recorder's position, under Democrat control for years, which comes up for election in 2024. "I am thankful to the executive committee for their trust in me," said Crescimano, who also serves as the party's vice chair. "I look forward to the opportunity to serve as a board member. I am confident that my experience will be an asset to the board." The county board, comprised of two Democrats and two Republicans, oversees local elections, ensures fair voting processes and supervises a staff taking care of other government responsibilities. Elections board members receive appointments from their respective county-based political parties: Democrats or Republicans. Caleb Stidham, the county Republican party's chairman, who also serves as county treasurer, spoke highly of Crescimano. "There's no one more qualified to join the board of elections," Stidham said. "Her experience in government accounting and relationships around the county will assist the board greatly. We are grateful for her passion to serve the community and look forward to her joining the board." Erie County commissioner Matt Old, another area Republican, offered a similar vote of confidence for Crescimano. "Lisa brings a common sense approach to government and will be a voice for fiscal responsibility and sound election administration," Old said. "I look forward to working with her to ensure elections are run fairly in Erie County."
