Port Clinton restaurant to close

PORT CLINTON — A Port Clinton restaurant announced it'll shut down this year, citing staffing issues as the main reason for ceasing operations. "It is with great sadness that we must announce our closing," according to a post published Tuesday morning on social media from Waldo Peppers, an eatery located on East Harbor Road. "Our inability to hire enough people over the last few years has been our ultimate downfall," it continued. "During our very short 'busy season,' we were unable to serve enough guests to make it through the winter. Waldo describes itself as a "family-friendly restaurant and bar" offering many items like wings, flatbreads, salads, burgers, sandwiches, a wide selection of alcohol and more. Many people took to social media and expressed their condolences. This included Candice Currier Mayer, who wrote, "I am so sorry to hear (this). It was one of our favorite places. It always had good food and good service even when short-staffed. Wishing everyone the best." Waldo's post ended by showing appreciation to those who supported the business. "Our staff and ownership appreciate all of you great customers over the years," it read. "We will be open (un)til the end of the month. Please go out and support local shops, restaurants and businesses as they need your support now more than ever."
