Family bond foundation for boutique

HURON — A new boutique truly lives up to the phrase "family-run business." Ashley (Shupe) Dickman, a 2006 Edison High School graduate, recently opened Kaiella Brooke Mama & Kids Boutique at 519 Main St. in Huron. It's located across from Main Street Tavern near the railroad tracks. Not only does the branding feature her three daughters — Edison Schools students Kailyn, Ella and Brooke — but they willingly help her stock shelves, price items and more all in promoting their store. "My daughters are basically my life," said Dickman, a Berlin Heights resident who lives with her husband, Matt, who's also the girls' father. "Family is super important to me, and I'm hoping everyone gets that with this store. I wanted to show that with my business being that it's a kids boutique, and I want to reach that demographic." The boutique offers clothing and accessories for: • Children with selections for both boys and girls • Women with products catering to mothers as its name implies The shop also specializes in necklaces, earrings and apparel. There's also a candy selection. "We have a little bit of everything," Dickman said. Originally setting up shop at festivals and other pop-up events, opening a brick-and-mortar storefront helps fulfill a lifelong dream for Dickman, who also works as the registrar for the Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing. Dickman's friends, Tiffany McGee and Stephanie Hill, who co-own Hello Gorgeous Beauty Bar, operating beside Dickman's boutique, convinced her to work near them. "Wherever we went, all of our favorite places seemed to be in Huron," Dickman said. "We always did well here." Dickman then explained the reasoning behind starting up her own boutique. "When I was in high school, I wanted to do fashion merchandising, and I just thought there wasn't anything close for us around here," Dickman said. "Now, with three girls, we are not able to find super cute and affordable kids' clothing, so I just decided, with my daughters' help, to start my own business." The boutique is open on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. People can search for the business on social media for more information.
