Popular German tradition coming to Sandusky

SANDUSKY — The Boeckling Club, 614 Columbus Ave., in the former Knights of Columbus Hall, is again bringing a popular German tradition, the Christkindlmarkt (krist-kin-del-MARKT) or Christmas Market, to Sandusky. The Christmas Market will take place on Saturday. It will take place indoors and feature a glimpse of traditional German culture, including craft vendors, entertainment, German food and beverages. A monetary donation or packaged food item will be collected as the entrance fee and will be donated to Care and Share of Erie County. Care and Share will also have a mitten tree for folks to hang their donated gloves and mittens on. Entertainment will feature Wayne Golob and Anthony Culkar on the accordions accompanied by percussionist Ed Klimczak playing popular Christmas songs. Food will include sauerkraut balls, soft pretzels, various types of sausages, sauerkraut, pastries and more. Alcoholic beverages will include Christmas ale; glühwein, pronounced GLOO-vine, it's mulled wine; and hot cider with a kick. Non-alcoholic beverages will include bottled water, soda, hot cider, hot chocolate and coffee. The craft show will feature vendors showcasing hand-crafted items as well as German Christmas ornaments.
