Love biking? Then join Sandusky Bay Cycles for a ride

SANDUSKY — They really like to bike.But what they enjoy even more: sharing their passion for riding with others in a community they're proud to call home.Local residents Kippie Loughlin and Elisabeth Sowecke recently co-founded Sandusky Bay Cycles. The nonprofit describes itself as "united by our love of bike rides and passionate about sharing resources with each other and the community."The group's mission revolves around inspiring a robust bicycle network in Sandusky. About a month ago, the group launched its Happy Thursday! Ride, which encourages community members, in a group setting, to go out biking through various city neighborhoods.It's "really an experience and a good way to connect with locals," Loughlin said. "It's fun, positive and healthy. About 30 people showed up for the trip."We have gained a lot of support from the community for our bike co-op," said Loughlin, who welcomes anyone to join them for an upcoming ride.Eventually, Loughlin wants to open a community garage, where people can, among other aspects, receive repairs on their bicycles."We not only want to encourage biking and bike safety, but we want to provide free bike maintenance to residents who cannot afford repairs," he said.
