CLYDE Clyde High School's child development class recently made tie blankets for infants. The 16 blankets will be donated to Firelands Regional Medical Center's birthing center in Sandusky. The goal is that when a baby is born, a blanket will be given to the baby's family to take home. SANDUSKY For November, Dana Pitcher's third-grade class at Sandusky Intermediate recently spread kindness to Parkvue Retirement Community by decorating their tables for Thanksgiving. The students colored and cut turkey table favors which were then filled with treats and left fun Thanksgiving jokes on the table for residents to read while they ate their lunch and dinner in the dining hall on Thanksgiving Day. VERMILION Cleveland Ballet, once again, provided 100 free tickets to Sailorway Middle School students to attend the 11 a.m. performance on Friday, Dec. 16 of their production of composer Peter Tchaikovsky's holiday classic "The Nutcracker." Cleveland Ballet, summer residents of the Harbourtown Fine Arts Center, is a strong supporter of, not only the schools, but the citizens of Vermilion. The company also provided 100 free tickets to last year's production. Michael Krasnyansky, co-founder of Cleveland Ballet, said they want "to give the opportunity for the younger generation to see the holiday tradition, Cleveland Ballet's The Nutcracker, in hopes that one day these scholars will become our patrons of the ballet." When asked if she would be interested in the tickets again, Sailorway Middle School principal Beth Bartlome replied, "Yes, yes, yes. This is such an amazing day for our students. My favorite part was watching a fourth-grade boy cheer for the boys that came out to 'battle' the girls in one of the scenes on Christmas Eve. We will use this as a reward for 90 students who have earned points through our PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) program."
