Sandusky spending more on insurance

SANDUSKY — Sometimes insurance extends beyond home, auto and life coverage. During a recent public meeting, Sandusky city commissioners finalized a plan to spend $355,000 on a multifaceted insurance package for government-owned entities. The cost represents a 6% premium increase compared to what officials spent on insuring these same items a year ago. Officials plan on spending local funds through a variety of accounts to cover this expense. Michelle Reeder, the city's finance director, offered some additional insight: • The coverage: "This insurance legislation provides coverage for all city buildings, vehicles, equipment, crime coverage, cyber coverage, excess/umbrella coverage and liquor liability for our golf course." • The necessity: "In the event we need to utilize insurance, we would work with the insurance adjuster to determine the extent of damage to a vehicle or building, then determine if it gets repaired or totally replaced." • The added amount: "The increase in insurance is justified as the cost of goods has increased drastically. The insurance coverage would be responsible to rebuild and replace structures if required. Cyber insurance providers have seen major attacks and claims, which has also led to increased costs across the cyber market."
