Safe Harbour: Providing domestic violence support since 1989

The Safe Harbour crisis line is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Here's what you can expect from Safe Harbour: • Our shelter provides a safe place to stay. • Our support group provides an atmosphere of encouragement and healing. • Our speaker's bureau can educate the community and raise awareness. • Our legal advocacy program provides support for victims in criminal and civil court. • Our licensed social worker provides short term crisis intervention counseling as well as outreach counseling for non-residential victims at an off-site location. • Our First Response program with local law enforcement enables us to contact the victim by phone or in person, at the time of the incident. Many domestic violence victims flee their homes with their children with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. Because of the generosity of our donors, we can provide everything needed in that time of crisis. They can come into the shelter and be safe. We can help them heal and can continue to help them until they are ready to be independent. We will continue to provide them with the things they need if we have them. Whatever household or personal products you use at home is what we use at our shelter. Another great way to assist would be to donate superstore gift cards to help those families in crisis get the things they need. For those who are seeking employment, gift cards can help them get professional work attire or put gas in their car to get to their job interview. For those ready to leave the shelter, gift cards can help them set up a new home and build a new, independent life. Individual donations fill the gaps between our funding and our needs. Please consider a contribution to help us support victims while they heal and become independent. During 2021 Safe Harbour answered 404 crisis calls, provided shelter for 30 victims, provided legal advocacy to 190 victims, had 103 participants in support group, provided outreach counseling to 120 victims, educated 28 new Firelands nurses and responded to 420 crisis victims through our First Response Program, 63 of which were rape victims who were connected with the SANE program.
