VOLLEYBALL: 8 area players recognized on All-Ohio teams; Holsapple, Stout and Daniel win top district honors

Eight area volleyball players received All-Ohio honors when the statewide recognition was released Sunday. Perkins' Emma Manley and Vermilion teammates Maddie Stout and Gracie Starcovic were honorable mention in Division II. Huron's Jess Holsapple was second-team all-state in D-III, with her teammates Kendall Camp and Tess Humphrey getting honorable mention. And in D-IV, Monroeville's Maddie Daniel was first team and her teammate Lilly White was third team. All-District 6 teams were also unveiled Sunday. Stout, Holsapple and Daniel were Players of the Year in Divisions II, III and IV, respectively. Manley, a lefty senior for the Pirates, finished the season with 285 kills, 224 digs, 323 serve receives, 47 total blocks and 31 aces. She helped bridge Perkins from standout 2020-21 teams to the next era. Stout and Starcovic are the only two Sailors to ever surpass 1,000 digs in their careers. Stout finished her senior season 303 kills, 340 digs and 56 aces. Starcovic had 337 kills, 327 digs and 61 aces. The pair led Vermilion to repeat league and district championships after the program had never won either before 2021. Holsapple, a senior, was a do-it-all player for a Huron team that went undefeated in the SBC Bay Division and was ranked No. 2 in the state before its loss to Galion in a district final. She finished the season with 255 kills and 285 digs. Camp and Humphrey were both junior specialists for the Tigers, Camp as the libero and Humphrey the setter. Camp totaled 458 digs and 382 serve receives this season. Humphrey dished out 816 assists and added 273 digs. Daniel and White are still playing. The Monroeville seniors are heading back to the state final four and will lead the Eagles into a semifinal matchup against Newark Catholic at noon on Thursday. Daniel, an outside hitter, has 528 kills and 428 digs and counting. White has set the program's single-season record with 679 digs to go along with 52 aces. SBC River powerhouse Tiffin Calvert placed Hannah Miller on first-team All-Ohio in D-IV and Caroline Lanicek is on the second team. The Division I District 6 first team included Norwalk star sophomore Lucy Schlotterer. She had 379 kills and 261 digs for the Truckers. Fremont's Ross Lyndi Wolf was D-I district player of the year, with Little Giants coach Lyndi Cahill the coach of the year. Wolf, a 6-foot-1 sophomore, had 315 kills as Ross went 20-4. Sandusky's Skylar Havens was a third-team all-district selection following a strong senior season as a middle hitter for the Blue Streaks. In addition to Stout in D-II, the all-district first team included Starcovic, Manley, Bellevue's Kailee Felder, Clyde's DeLani Durst and Port Clinton's Alliyah Wharton. Felder totaled 290 kills this fall and finished her Lady Red career with 1,063. Durst, only a sophomore, has already surpassed 1,000 career assists. Wharton reached the 200-kill mark this fall to go with 41 total blocks. The D-III first team featured Holsapple, Camp, Humphrey, Willard's Kelsey Lykins and Margaretta's Kylie Leibacher. Leibacher had 219 kills and 265 digs for the Polar Bears in her final volleyball season. Lykins, a sophomore for the Flashes, helped Willard to an 8-2 league mark with 320 kills and 64 total blocks. In D-IV, Daniel and White were joined on the district's first team by St. Paul's Kristin Matlack. Matlack took over as setter this fall for the Flyers and dished out 691 assists as a sophomore. Vermilion's Kara Coffman was chosen as a D-II District Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Lexington's Janelle Wyant.
