Drop by pier for free yoga

SANDUSKY — Earlier this week, Open Way Yoga announced it would bring back free weekly yoga classes on Saturdays at Jackson Street Pier in downtown Sandusky. The first such session begins at 10 a.m. Saturday inside the pier's Mylander Pavilion off Shoreline Drive. Classes are geared toward those who consider themselves beginners and intermediates, but all can attend, organizers said. It'll be a similar experience to the summer yoga classes, also overseen by Open Way, taught outside on the pier. People should bring a mat, a blanket and some water. "Nowadays, more than ever, people are struggling — with their body, mind and spirit — and we want to offer people a healthy way to self-soothe and settle their bodies and minds as we move into winter," Open Way's co-owner Shannon Thomas said. Classes are free due to Bayshore Counseling sponsoring this initiative with support from Sandusky's government providing space. Open Way Yoga describes itself as "a lovely group of souls gathering in a great space to create a comforting environment for growth in the community through yoga, arts and other forms of mind/body connection classes." With a studio in Huron, it offers a variety of styles and different types of classes suited to fit all different levels and needs.
