Spooky, scary skeletons

SANDUSKY — A downtown Sandusky destination is kicking off the spooky season with a ghoulish Halloween display. The Merry-Go-Round Museum is known for its beautiful Christmas displays. Register photo/ELIZABETH KEEFE Kurri Lewis, the museum's executive director and curator, is excited about this year's new display, saying it's a fun way to showcase the historic structure to the public. "One of the things we wanted to do was to showcase our building," Lewis said. "Although our building is already unique in its own right, we have found this is a great way to get the public involved even more." The museum has put on a Christmas light show for the last six years, and the idea of a Halloween display came after museum officials wanted to add props to the Spirits in the Museum whiskey-tasting event in September. "The props and idea came from Michael Young, a board member who runs the Sycamore Line Lights Christmas show," Lewis said. "Michael and I have been working together on creating displays for the holidays for six years." The Halloween displays dozens of realistic skeletons climbing up the columns of the building that light up at night between 7 p.m. and midnight. "When we started the Christmas light show, we knew that people would be coming downtown to explore the city. We decided to join in on that," Lewis said. Lewis said he's received positive feedback from the community on the spooky makeover and plans on another Halloween display in 2023.
