New details in jail injury

FREMONT — New details have emerged about an incident at Sandusky County Jail in which an inmate was injured. Just before 8 p.m. on Sept. 13, a deputy working in the panel room of the jail received a call to "send help," according to an initial incident report from the sheriff's office. Deputies found a female inmate, face down on the floor. "The incident is a suicide attempt no other inmates were involved," said Maj. Jody Hatfield of the sheriff's office. The woman, an Alabama resident, was flown by medical helicopter to a Toledo hospital. After initial treatment at the hospital, she refused a transfer to a nursing home for further care and signed herself out of the hospital, Hatfield said. The extent of her injuries was not disclosed due to medical privacy laws. The injured inmate was arrested Sept. 3 for OVI, leaving the scene of an accident, open container of alcohol and failure to control. She was arrested by a sheriff's office deputy. She did not return to Sandusky County Jail after medical treatment. She has a pre-trial hearing scheduled for Nov. 8 in Fremont Municipal Court.
