PERKINS TWP. Perkins High School's National Honor Society chapter inducted several new members during its ceremony on Sept. 25 at the high school auditorium. PORT CLINTON Port Clinton High School students in Yiting Xia's Chinese classes recently learned Kung Fu led by Amy Chen. Hand movements, stances, leg movements and balance are the basic skills of Wushu (武术基本功). Kung fu is a martial art, centuries old from greater China and utilizes the skills of patience and energy. The exercise involves concentration and self- discipline. MILAN TWP. On Sept. 26, Christina Edwards and Kaiden Baum, high school seniors in EHOVE Career Center's culinary arts program competed in the Creative Cakes competition at the 2022 Mid-American Restaurant Expo in Columbus. The two designed and built a gender-reveal cake that paid homage to the classic Super Mario Bros. video game. The surprise in their cake was that when you cut into the "question mark" box, it revealed blue or pink Mario Coins. Their unique entry earned the pair first honorable mention. More than 35 teams of two from around Ohio competed in this year's event. Entries were ranked by a panel of judges, including Food Network star and 2018 Spring Baking champion Nacho Aquirre. ERIE COUNTY Spencer Flick of Sandusky and Alex Kuhl of Huron are among 32 recipients of $1,000 scholarships from the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program and The Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Foundation. Chosen students intend to pursue a career in the natural gas and oil industry. The 2022 class is represented by individuals across 22 Ohio counties, 15 institutions of higher education and covering 20 different majors. Since 2007, Ohio's natural gas and oil industry has awarded 599 scholarships to 342 students totaling $599,000. Recipients are vetted to ensure they possess the skills and credentials to obtain an education that will support a fulfilling career. Applicants are screened for essay writing, academic achievements, letters of recommendation, career choice and other special recognitions.
