PREP ROUNDUP: Willard edges PC to clinch Bay tennis; Sailors' Stout gets 1,000th dig

WILLARD — Port Clinton won the first set in all five matches Tuesday, but Willard rallied to edge the Redskins 3-2 in a girls tennis match that decided the SBC Bay Division title. PC fell to 10-7 overall, 6-2 in the SBC Bay. Willard (12-5, 10-0) stayed unbeaten in the Bay and clinched its sixth straight division title outright with the comeback victory. "This one stings. We put ourselves in a great position to get a huge win by winning all five first sets, but Willard did what Willard does," PC coach Joe Miller said. "You can't beat them without putting a full match together, and while we played our best tennis of the season early in the match, Willard was able to adjust and finish." Miller was especially pleased with his second doubles team of Isabella Marvicsin and Olivia Spencer. "Both of them are playing their first year of varsity tennis and just took down the No. 1 seed in the SBC Bay in convincing fashion," he said. "I am so proud of those two." Mia Downing added 10 kills, Rylie Satterfield had 16 assists and Gabby Zokle finished with five blocks. Monroeville 3, St. Paul 2 NORWALK — Monroeville dropped the first set but rallied to defeat St. Paul 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 18-25, 15-12. The Eagles (9-2, 7-0 Firelands) got 26 kills and 24 digs from Maddie Daniel. Madi Clark finished with 50 assists, 25 digs and four aces. For St. Paul (6-5, 5-2), Ryleigh Rohrbacher finished with 12 kills. Ella Wangler had three aces, seven kills and 37 digs. Hopewell-Loudon 3, SMCC 0 SANDUSKY — Hopewell-Loudon (8-7, 6-4 SBC River) swept St. Mary Central Catholic 25-19, 25-23, 25-18. Addison Raymond had five kills and 10 digs for the Panthers (2-12, 1-9).
