CROSS COUNTRY: PC's Wiechman, St. Paul's boys notch wins

GENOA — Port Clinton freshman Morgan Wiechman ran the second-fastest time in PC girls cross country history to place first at the Battle of Turtle Creek in Genoa on Saturday. Wiechman came across the line in 19:17.64. She had already broken into the top-10 leaderboard earlier in her freshman season after being middle school state runner-up as an eighth grader. Port Clinton's girls cross country 5K record was set in 1986 by Ann Gaydosh with a 19:04. PC's girls placed fourth as a team as all five of their scorers ran personal-best times. Wiechman's older sister Maddie placed 16th. Kate Lovitt was 20th, Ava Pluto was 21st and Kaylie Simpson came in 77th. Oak Harbor and Sandusky also competed in the girls race in Genoa. The Rockets were ninth out of 11 placing teams, while the Blue Streaks didn't have enough runners to score. Alyse Sorg came in 38th to lead Oak Harbor in a time of 24:08.29. Sandusky's Rylee Whelan ran a 24:47.69 to come in 46th. Oak Harbor was seventh out of 12 scoring teams in the boys race, while neither PC nor Sandusky had enough runners to score as a team. The Rockets' Owen Miller and Gavin Witt placed 16th and 18th, respectively. Miller ran an 18:27.14, with Witt seven seconds behind him. Port Clinton's Carson Miller came in 32nd. Sandusky's Alan Jarrett-Jackson placed 106th. Flyers win Galion Invite GALION — St. Paul traveled to the Galion Invite on Saturday and returned to Norwalk as victors. The Flyers' Isaac Thimke placed fifth in 17:02.5, with his teammate Ian Deeter ninth in 17:26.5. Edison's Jackson Michaelis was 11th in 17:39.5, and the Chargers' Kellen McDonnell was 16th. St. Paul wrapped up the team title thanks to Gavin Ross in 17th, Nick Centa in 20th and Jack Dvorak in 21st. Huron's Tyler Kohlmann was the fastest Tiger in that race, placing 22nd in 18:11.9. Edison's Grace Anderson ran the D-III girls race in 19:01.6, good for fourth place. Huron's Kennedy Schlessman was close behind in sixth with a time of 19:37.7. New London's Reese Landis won the D-III girls race in a time of 18:19.4, more than 35 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Bellevue's Ryan Cleveland (17:37.2) and Vermilion's Joseph Webb (17:37.4) finished right on top of each other in the D-II boys race, coming in 11th and 12th place, respectively. Perkins' Colin Ellis was in 15th in 17:47.2. The Pirates' Keegan Dulaney (18:19.9) came in 25th, and Vermilion's Daniel Grisel (18:22.1) was 27th. Perkins placed seventh out of 13 scoring teams. Norwalk's Immel sisters both placed in the top-10 of the D-II girls race. Zuri was sixth in 19:38.6, and Xavi was ninth in 19:58.3. The Truckers also had freshman Isabel Ott finish 25th in 21:17.8. Norwalk finished fourth out of 15 scoring teams. Perkins' Ellie Bodle was the fastest Pirate, in 21:41.8 for 29th. Bellevue had Dominique Weisz in 31st (21:46.9) and Eva Hancock in 34th (22:08.5). Norwalk freshman Casey Kromer dominated the D-II/III open race in a time of 16:40 to win by 87 seconds. His teammate, Maxwell Bores, was third, and St. Paul's David Forrest was fifth. SMCC's Walton 10th at Lakota KANSAS — St. Mary Central Catholic's Alizabith Walton placed 10th at the Lakota Invitational on Saturday in a time of 21:48.8. The race was won by Old Fort's Macie Miller in a blistering 18:09. Miller broke her own school record, set last weekend, by 17 seconds. SMCC's Sage Ralofsky was the Panthers' next-fastest runner, placing 47th in a time of 24:41.4. In the boys D-I/II race at Lakota, Clyde's Aaron Clapp placed eighth in a time of 17:55.7. The Fliers also had Eli Pumphrey (13th) and Zane Ball run faster than 19:30. Monroeville's Ian Patchen was the fastest area boy in the D-II/III race. He placed 24th in 18:41.
