Updates on 2 Bay View businesses

BAY VIEW — The owners of two beloved Bay View-based businesses, located beside one another, provided some noteworthy updates regarding when they'll reopen. The companies' co-owner, Rick Hogrefe, via H2 Property Holdings, noted how both the Bay View Center and Bait and the Bay Bell Restaurant desperately need a makeover, pegged at about a $2 million investment. Both businesses closed on Oct. 31, 2021, with demolition occurring about two weeks afterward. Since then, they've undergone a massive overhaul. Hogrefe offered insight into the neighboring spots: Bay View Center and Bait Shop • The latest: It will reopen for a soft opening this weekend, Sept. 17-18. Going forward, "We plan to be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. most days." • The new look: "Think mini-Cabela's. We upgraded our look and tackle selection. We may be the best little tackle store around now." • The supplies: "We will carry minnows, worms, shrimp, mealworms and other baits as before." • The overall selection: "There will be a section for basic needs in emergencies for the locals. We will sell beer and wine with a section of fine craft beers added to our normal domestics. We will have snacks and some quick grab-and-go sandwiches, etc. for the fishermen on the run." Bay Bell Restaurant • The latest: It "will open on Nov. 5. We will celebrate with a grand opening for the whole facility." • The new look: "The new restaurant has lots of windows with views of Sandusky Bay featured." • The overall selection: "It will have a full bar. It will offer our great Bay Bell breakfast and lunch. We are introducing a brand new menu that will focus on freshwater fish prepared in more ways than just fried. We will also have fine steaks as well as family fare. We will have an interesting Little Plate menu for those seeking a lighter bite also focusing on shellfish and fish. We are bringing pizza back. We are considering in-village delivery if the need is there." Want to work here? Hogrefe noted, between both locations, he wants to hire about 40 people. He's seeking cooks, servers, buses, hosts, cleaners and more. The job fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the new Bay Bell Restaurant, 803 E. Bayview Drive, Bay View.
