Ambassadors aspire to do great things in Huron

HURON — The Huron Chamber of Commerce and BGSU Firelands' Clark Inclusive Scholars Program partner to provide opportunities for program participants to become ambassadors. Its goal aims to provide an individualized post-secondary certificate program for students with intellectual disabilities. Upon completion of the program, students will either be prepared to enter the workforce or continue for an associate's degree. Two people in particular — Amy Roldan, representing the Huron Chamber of Commerce; and Liz Laurer, the career services coordinator for the Clark Inclusive Scholars Program — came together to discuss how the chamber could help introduce the students to employers and help them find opportunities for employment with Huron chamber members. "As Huron chamber ambassadors, we look forward to them assisting us with special events and projects while giving them the opportunity to interact with local businesses", Roldan said. Recently, the Huron chamber hosted the class at its office to share what the chamber does, discuss the ambassador program and express the importance of each of their roles in this new partnership. "We are so excited to be a part of this program and believe this initiative will provide tremendous value to local businesses, our community and the Clark scholars", chamber board president Bill Murray said. David White — director of Firelands Forward with the Erie County Economic Development Corp. and also a Huron chamber board member — attended the meeting and shared with the Clark Scholars the importance of their role. "This partnership is a great opportunity to connect an underutilized talent pool to employers while promoting the good the Huron chamber does in the community, a win, win". In a chamber statement, its members believe "that a community is stronger through partnerships and shared resources. This partnership is just another example of our goal of being creative and innovative in any way we can to better serve our businesses and residents of Huron."
