SMCC alum is new principal

SANDUSKY — A recent St. Mary Central Catholic High School alumnus returns to lead his alma mater. Sandusky Central Catholic School's board of directors on Wednesday chose Brian Ferber to be the next middle/high school principal, effective immediately. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to come back to my alma mater and lead this prestigious school into the future," Ferber said. "Having already been a student, teacher, coach and parent of a student at SCCS, it's an honor to now be one of the leaders in this wonderful community. It's always been a goal of mine to come back and I cannot wait to get started." Ferber, a 2010 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic High School, began his teaching career at SCCS immediately after graduating from Bowling Green State University in 2014. He worked as an intervention specialist at SCCS through 2020 and also served as the head girls' varsity basketball coach from 2017 to 2021. Ferber spent the last two years teaching at Margaretta Schools and earning his master's degree from the University of Texas. Ferber fills this administrative role after Ryan Wikel, a 1999 SMCC grad, was promoted to be Sandusky Central Catholic School's head of school earlier this month. He replaces Geoff Palmer, a 1980 graduate who retired on June 30 after leading his alma mater since 2017. "We are excited that Brian is coming home," Wikel said. "Brian is a strong leader that has displayed the ability to build strong rapport with both staff and students.He is a positive role model and has strong faith life that will serve as his guide as he leads our high school and middle school. Brian's familiarity with SCCS will allow him to hit the ground running." Wikel began his teaching career at SCCS immediately after graduating from Bowling Green State University in 2004. After several years teaching science and English at Swanton and Sandusky high schools, Wikel returned to SCCS to serve as its athletic director and dean of students from 2014 to 2018. Before his recent promotion, he served as middle/high school principal.
