Arrest made in Friday shooting

SANDUSKY — Police made an arrest in connection with an alleged incident on Friday of multiple gunshots striking a vehicle in a parking lot. Sandusky police Chief Jared Oliver said officers charged city resident Charles D. Gibbs, 34, of West Madison Street, in connection with this crime. He faces the following offenses, as outlined in a Sandusky police report: • Tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony • Having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony • Carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony • Improper handling of a firearm, a fourth-degree felony • Vandalism, a fifth-degree felony • Obstruction, a second-degree misdemeanor Just after 10 p.m. on Friday, officers were called to a parking lot in the 1000 block of Cleveland Road (U.S. 6) for a report of a disturbance with a gun involved, according to the dispatch log. A witness at the scene indicated Gibbs fired at least three shots into her vehicle, causing significant damage, then left the area. The report doesn't note any injuries. Sandusky firefighters also arrived to the scene, extinguishing the vehicle as it caught ablaze. Oliver noted Gibbs fled in a vehicle driven by a woman, charged with driving under suspension, but was found shortly thereafter and apprehended. Oliver said police also found a gun that the department believes was used in this incident. Throughout the weekend, Gibbs remained locked up in jail on a no-bond order. He's scheduled for a Monday morning arraignment in Sandusky Municipal Court.
