Overdose Awareness Day events scheduled

SANDUSKY — Plans are shaping up for International Overdose Awareness Day events in both Sandusky and Norwalk next month. In addition, a benefit concert will be hosted Friday to benefit Project Noelle, a local charity that is helping to organize the events. International Overdose Awareness Day for Erie County will be hosted at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Shoreline Park in Sandusky. Consider bringing a lawn chair. The program will start at 7 p.m. There will be a candlelight vigil, speakers, information tables, music and free Narcan with training on how to use it. Food will be available from a food truck that offers tacos. As with past events, photos of local people who died from a drug overdose will be displayed. Go to the Project Noelle website, projectnoelle.com, and click "Overdose Awareness Events 2022" for a form to submit a photo and information about your loved one. Providers are being sought to provide a table for the event. They are asked for a donation of $25 to help cover costs of the event. The Overdose Awareness Day event for Huron County will be 6 p.m. Aug. 28 at Veteran's Memorial Lake Park. Photos of people who died from overdoses may be submitted for the Norwalk event, too, using the same form at the Project Noelle website. The benefit "Chrismas in July" concert for Project Noelle will be 6 p.m. Friday at Barrel House Saloon, 101 E. Shoreline Drive in downtown Sandusky. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Geils Band tribute band, and Invincible, which pays tribute to Pat Benatar. There will be raffles, food and a musical beach towel contest. Money raised at the event will go to the Project Noelle Christmas fund. Project Noelle is a charity that focuses on helping children affected by the drug epidemic.
